We have a very special relationship with our hogs, which is part of our efforts to connect with the land and the natural world. In developing such a relationship based on love and respect, we strive to maintain awareness of our place in the circle of life. We choose to take on the hard task of directly engaging with birth, life, and death to become a sustainable local source of energy for ourselves and our community. We value our connections with the natural world and honor the animals that nurture us.
WHAT KIND OF PIGS?We currently raise heritage pigs only: world-renowned breeds called Large Black, Mangalitsa, Duroc, and Berkshire.
Our pigs are all raised on pasture or in large paddocks. They have space to run (surprisingly fast), play, take mud baths, nap, and soak in the Sol. We are proud to be able to raise our pigs from birth to finish on the farm. Our intimate and respectful connection with our animals benefit humans and hogs alike. |
Our Processor
All of our pork products are processed by USDA-certified and best local butcher, Salazar Natural Meats.
We are grateful to have such a fantastic relationship with Lucas Salazar, who practices a humane and respectful process and the most natural ingredients possible. Salazar Natural Meats' "Vision and Philosophy" reads: Salazar Meats values the development of local, sustainable economies. We hope and strive for a system of animal agriculture that honors animals, land, and people. Rather than seeking to build an empire of meat production, we would like to see a more diverse, small-scale and distributed system of animal agriculture and meat processing. Therefore, we operate in a cooperative and collaborative spirit with other small-scale growers and processors. |
